Wrestling in Mixed Martial Arts – from Dan Severn to Randy Couture – The Grappling Style of MMA
Wrestling, like Judo and BJJ is a grappling martial art where striking is not allowed.
There are two different forms of wrestling: Freestyle wrestling and Greco-Roman wrestling, and of course pro-wrestling or fake wrestling.
The differences between each type of wrestling is really tiny, except for WWE wrestling of course. All those different forms of wrestling brought key moves to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
Wrestling is a collective term that include:
Greco-Roman Wrestling: the legs can’t be used for takedowns and holds below the waist are not allowed, resulting in high number of throws.
Freestyle Wrestling: grapplers are permitted to assault the entire body.

I didn’t list the style of wrestling higher in this article because the meaning of it is to list the most pain inflictor style of fighting involved in MMA. Therefore, under those circumstances, striking styles have a higher ranking.
Despite saying that, there’s a real painful move coming from pro-wrestling in MMA: the body slam or Powerbomb, magnified by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, especially against Ricardo Arona. This move is amazing when the fighter is locked in a triangle choke but require a lot of strenth.
