The MMA Cult Movie Of All Time: The Smashing Machine – The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr
When the movie came out, they promoted it heavily using lines like “A sport so dangerous it was once banned in the U.S.” to emphasis the no-holds-barred gruesome aspect of the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
They were promoting it as no-rule contest sport and abusing the savage aspect of it. That was selling at the time, in the early days of MMA. Without the provocative aspect of it, the movie is a really good documentary on the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.
The camera follows Tim Kerr into the gym and into the ring. Tim Kerr was at the time one of the most dominating fighters in Mixed Martial Arts. You can see him train with Bas Rutten and Ricco Rodrigez and fights against Igor Vovchanchin in the ring of the early Pride Championship event. They also show the bad side of Mark Kerr and his drug addiction with pain killers.
Since, The Smashing Machine became a cult movie in the eyes of every MMA fan. You can find it on those top vendor sites or bid on it at eBay.
