No, the mistake in Silva’s name is not a typo, it’s on purpose. I know I’m going to get flamed by MMA fans since Wandi is loved by the entire community and by myself too actually.

However, let’s face it, the guy is no longer the same since his unanimous decision loss to Arona back at Pride – Final Conflict 2005.

They gave him the rematch in an unimpressive performance at PRIDE – Shockwave 2005 and since, he’s sporting a 2-6 record.

He is 4-6 in his last 10 fights getting the win only against B level fighters like Kazuyuki Fujita in PRIDE – Critical Countdown Absolute in 2006 and Kieth Jardine at UFC 84 – Ill Will, his only victory in the UFC.

I really don’t understand why Wanderlei Silva changed his style of fighting. Since the Quinton Jackson fights in Pride, he went from an extremely dangerous Muay Thai fighter style with deadly knees and elbows to an average brawler using exclusively wild looping telegraphed hooks that misses most of the time.

He doesn’t seem able to adapt to the new rules of Mixed Martial Arts where soccer kicks ( his best weapon back in the days) are illegal.

Strange, as the guy is extremely aggressive and still have all the physical power and stamina needed to compete at a higher level.

He is way too much into entertaining more than competing. He even stated as being really proud of getting the knockout of the night in his last fight against Jackson… The only problem, he was the knocked out fighter!!!!

Wanderlei Silva gave an interview to MMA weekly and talked about his love for his fans and for the UFC crowd.

…I love the crowd, and every time I go into the Octagon, like the last time, I fight Rampage – he’s like a legend here. He’s a great fighter, he’s an American, and the crowd have more for me. It’s a lot of emotion. It’s priceless. Every fight I’m gonna fight is sold out one month or two months before. My fans know I give my best every time. My fans stay with me every time, and every time, I’m going to give my best.

Then he talked about Rampage and his last loss.

I think this is one reason for I lose my last fight, because… it’s a very nervous fight, because I don’t touch him, he don’t touch me. He give me one jab, I give him one kick, and it’s very nervous. My corner talked to me, it’s one minute to finish the round; I’m thinking, three minutes, we no have action, we don’t have nothing. And the public is starting to boo. The guy not going to come in – I come in. I open my guard, and he got me.

This is I think his biggest problem. He’s in it only for the show and forgets about the ranking…. and the fact that Dana White only wants winning fighters. He doesn’t seams to understand that his next fight is a must win situation and that if he loses that one, it might be his last appearence in the octagon.

In an interview with Fightersonly Mag, Wanderlei Silva explains how he’s going to cut down to 185.

“I eat a lot to make 205, no?” he said. “It will not be difficult for me to drop weight. My normal [walk around] weight is about 205, and my opponents have around 240.

“So I am going to test now a drop to 185, but I hope to fight in both weight division. I am going to test before [making the drop], but I only need to lose 20lbs, it is not a lot of weight. I think I am going to feel very well.”

It sounds like Wandi says he’s not a natural light heavyweight. If he needs to eat a lot to get to 205 then he should’not have any problem to get to his new weight class…

I hope he succeeds in his next fight, otherwise it might be his last in the UFC octagon.

PRIDE 28 – High Octane: Wanderlei Silva vs Quinton Jackson

Rampage started well in the first one. He scored some nice shots around 2:30 when he got the takedown at the end of the round.

Rampage got the takedown early in round 2 but Silva turned mad and knock the hell out of Quinton.

A strong right hand to the face and a historical Fleury of knees finished the bout with Rampage lying down in the ropes, bleeding.

Lets hope for a 3d one like that.

Pride: Final Conflict.

This is the first fight between the enemy brothers back in the Pride days.

It took place at the Tokyo Dome on November 9, 2003, in Tokyo, for the Middleweight Grand Prix Championship.

That fight was brutal. Wanderlei Silva was fighting his best MMA. Rampage ate knees after knees after knees….

I can’t Wai’t for the third one to happen! Only a few days and the wait is over!!! My heart goes to Wanderlei but I’m afraid of his new brawler style with telegraphed hooks…
