In 2003, John Hyams produced a docudrama for First Look International on BJJ fighter Renzo Gracie setting up for an engaging in MMA and BJJ fights.

It was shot at the same time of the Smashing Machine hit documentary on Mark Kerr. Actually, the Renzo Gracie Fight Day film is included in the Smashing Machine DVD as a free bonus.

This is the part 1 of the Fight Day documentary. After a short preview of Renzo winning a Vale Tudo fight, the short film starts in New Jersey in 1999 in Renzo home with his kids and wife showing pictures of his youth in Brazil… It’s a little boring but not that long anyway.

Then it continues with a nice rolling session with an unknown and much bigger opponent. I know training and fighting are two different things, but he is losing badly in this one, tapping out from a guillotine.

After the workout, he is interviewed for his upcoming fight against Alexander Otsuka in PRIDE 8.
