The exercise ball comes from fitness drill. It was introduced to MMA training by fighters like Frank Shamrock and Jiu Jitsu players that train a lot their flexibility and who had the idea to adapt fitness exercises to their regular workout.
It’s really good to work on your stability on the ground and to roll without an opponent. It’s great to develop your ground and pound fighting.

The lack of stability makes the exercise more difficult to acheave and gives better result than weight routine. Like Kettlebells, the perpetual motion of the weight gives extra power and explosivity.
