Right after that, Smith is going for a Sanda workout where he can show his abilities to hit the bag. He’s actually pretty good, throwing nice combos and strong kicks. He’s using a boxing punching technique opposite to the karate stance they are using. I hate Karate punches… But they are throwing extremely fast and powerful sidekicks.

Then right after the edited commercial break, Doug Anderson is going into a breaking bricks lesson While Jimmy Smith is entering a Sanda sparring session.

Both fighters are getting ready for their final fights. I wonder how can you get well versed in Sanda after a week of training. The American fighters are accomplished MMA artists, but learning Kung Fu in a week is just simply impossible.

After some painful up and down the steps on all four, you get introduced at stick handling. This is the most ancient Chinese weapon, and the way they use it, let me tell you, it is freaky dangerous. Once again, the American fighter looks embarrassing handling the stick compare to his Chinese fellows.

The sanda workout is really nice. It’s weird, they have the mat in the middle of the street with regular citizen watching, and laughing at him. It’s interesting to see the takedown workout. Sort of MMA throws. The three point contact to the ground is really strange. As soon as you have three points of your body touching the ground, it counts as a knock down.

Each episode shows them training out and learning the style of fighting over a period of five days with notable masters until they get into a final demonstration or fight in the new style of fighting they just learned…

The first show was shot in China where Jimmy Smith and Doug Anderson were learning Kung Fu, Wushu and Sanda. Sanda is a Chinese version of MMA. It mixes kickboxing with Judo throw. This fighting style is mastered by Kung Le in the States in which he is undefeated.

The Chinese episode was shot in December 28, 2007, and it was the first to 13 episodes.

In this DVD, he demonstrates 21 combinations on the speed bag. Boxers are using limited striking on he speed bag, purely left and right, cross and hammer fist.

They use it, mostly to develop speed and to get use to raise the hands up.

Herb Patus is a Kenpo master, so he’s using much more striking technique than a regular boxer.

He also made a Nunchakus instructional demonstrating 87 different variations to make a Bruce Lee impersonation.

As you can see, the video carries a strong 70’s taste. The guy looks like Magnum PI and the music remind the Kung Fu Fighting series, but nonetheless, this DVD instructional is a must have if you really want to work at the speed bag. The guy is a punching machine.
