Boxing in Mixed Martial Arts – Straight Punches – Hooks – Jabs – Uppercuts and Speed

boxing080905_photoshopThere’s a war of words between boxing matchmakers and boxers against Dana White and Mixed Martial Arts fighters.

Each camp claim to be the best and are using stereotype mockeries to make the other sport looks bad.

MMA fans are employing the Art Jimmerson UFC embarrassing loss to make a fool out of boxing, debating that boxers won’t succeed in the octagon base on this single fight only!

It’s true that this fight is pathetic and this fighter sucks. However, Art Jimmerson does not represent the entire world of boxing. He was the 1983 Golden Gloves Middleweight champion and became famous by losing to Royce Gracie while sporting only one boxing glove in his only fight in Mixed Martial Arts.

Watch the video of the fight below, it’s quite funny.

Of course, boxers and promoters are answering by biased sarcasms too, stating that Mixed Martial Arts is a human cock fighting sport that pleases teenagers and looks like cheap WWE shows, quarreling that martial artists don’t know how to throw a punch, have weak skills or no skill at all and estimate under a minute their chances to last in a boxing ring.

Check out this satellite word duel below between Joe Rogan -The voice of the UFC- and boxing matchmaker Lou DiBella.

It’s more a commercial war between a new sport organisation trying to take customers away of an old established sport.

Actually both org are creating this drama and using their own fans to sell tickets.

It’s doomed and rather immature in my humble opinion…

Boxers are the best punchers and whatever martial art style is called upon by MMA fighters, all the knock outs delivered by hands are 90% of the time coming by boxing punches.

Look at the Houston Alexander vs Keith Jardine fight or the most recent Fabricio Werdum loss at UFC 90 against Junior Dos Santos (nice uppercut by the way). Those fighters sports some serious boxing skills.

Of course, the boxing technique needs some tweaking to fit in MMA, the stance is too short and do not give fighters the ability to defend takedowns. The head movement is useless in a cage and the footwork isn’t exactly the same, but the essence of punching is identical in both sport and for that reason, MMA owe a lot to the sweet science.

Fabricio Werdum Vs. Junior Dos Santos

During a long time, most of the fights in MMA were won by BJJ or Wrestling players and their hands technique wasn’t developed that much. Consequently, lots of Mixed Martial Arts fans started to argue that boxing worth peanuts as fighting style.

Nevertheless, in the present time, MMAer are more well rounded than ever and most of them are sporting really strong boxing skills.

Boxing brought all the hands techniques to MMA: straight punches, hooks, jabs, uppercuts and circling the blind side of an opponent… Not too bad for such a hated sport!

Possible Damages:

• Knock out
• Broken bones to the face ( jaw, nose, orbital bones, teeth)
