The best MMA fights that made 2008

2008 was a massive year in Mixed Martial Arts. Lots of drama, great fights and great organisations matchmaking great events through 2008. However, The year was also marked by tragedy.

The tragic death of Evans Tanner, the murder-suicide of Justin Levens and his wife Sarah and the death of Justin Eilers who was shot dead by his stepfather, bereaved this 2008 year and shocked fans all around the world…

The most important fighters who made 2008 were without a doubt Brock Lesnar and Kimbo Slice. Kimbo was used and abused by the now defunct EliteXc company as the only tool they could find to compete against the UFC…, and they almost did it!

However, it was too big, too fast, too soon. The most well-known Youtube streetfighter couldn’t face the music as soon as he was exposed to serious opposition. EliteXc managed everything right from signing up the real popular brawler, to building up his career against popular washed up fighters and signing up a CBS TV deal that the UFC still can’t get… It was without Ken Shamrock and his strange injury the day of the fight.

Just because of that, and the Kimbo vs Petruzelli debacle, CBS throw in the towel and gave up on MMA after airing the biggest and most viewed MMA fight in history…

Brock Lesnar was the second big name of 2008. The ex pro-wrestler was used exactly like Kimbo Slice, and promoted heavily too, (That explains why Liddell only fought once) but with much more talent.  He succeeded where Kimbo failed and became UFC heavyweight champion after four fights only!!!
