Tito Ortiz is a good teacher. In this five minute free video hosted on Youtube, he shows you one of his favorite weapons that he uses all the time in the cage: the Double Leg Takedown and all the ways to Finish it.

In a real fight, the opponent is not willing to help you out to execute the double leg takedown perfectly, doing all the counter moves required to apply the takedown. In reality, lots of the attempts do not succeed and the attacker might eat a good knee in the face in reward.

Anyhow, Tito is a high caliber wrestler and the instructional DVD series he produced is a good way to learn lots of wrestling moves adapted for MMA and his famous ground and pound technique. I already covered this DVD bundle here if you want to get more precise info about it.

Ankle weights are a good alternative to develop and toning your lower back. Lots of fighters and fitness practitioners are using ankle weights to maximize their workout.

You can use the Ankle weights to harden your jogging or treadmills routines. You can even roll, do your BJJ, or practice your kicks with them on. Actually, all the drills involving leg and ankles movements can be done with a pair of ankle weights on.

Con: Some people find them hard for the joints and ligaments and prefer to wear a weight vest. It supplies weight for resistance, but the weight is better spread on your body. Keep in mind that the weight vest is useless for drill like the back kick. The price is of course higher than regular ankle weights.

Ankle weights are also good to improve your jumping abilities and of course your cardio. You can even turn maniac and put them on all day to do all your duties. It’s a bit extreme and might hurt your ankles, but I personally know fitness guru doing it. (I think it’s stupid…)

This is the last fight from Cris Cyborg at the Shamrock vs. Diaz Strikeforce event. The Japanese was extremely courageous against the brutal Brazilian.

She accepted the fight despite Cyborg couldn’t make the weight limit. She showed up at 152 pounds for her 145 pound fight with Hitomi Akano.

The fight was first called off, but they made some business deal with the Japanese fighter and the fight was kept on the card.

Santos, who was distinctly a lot bigger than her adversary, worn-out Akano around the cage with compelling kicks and punches rather easily.

She tried to do her best, but at the beginning of the third round, she was overwhelmed buy blows of any kind and finally got knocked out. The very much anticipated clash with Gina Carano promises some fireworks. It will be the first female main event fight in a major MMA show. Sweet!

Affliction matchmaking is really peculiar. They entered MMA spending millions of dollars hiring top-notch mixed martial arts fighters creating a crisis in MMA fighter salary. They were paying much more that what they were really worth, causing a massive departure from the UFC.

Affliction pretended to be the best opposition to the UFC, but they never answered to the Dana White attacks. They never tried to counter the UFC maneuvers when they were kicked out off Las Vegas for their second show, Affliction: Day of Reckoning on October 11, 2008. They just postponed the event to a later date.

They were forced to change the lineup of the event and to do what the UFC wanted. They never tried to keep the date and the lineup and to find another location to hold the show. They just bent over and accepted without fighting. Strange for a fighting promotion.

Right after, for their third and last event, after Josh Barnett got caught juicing, they called off the show after picking Vitor Belfort, a middleweight fighter, to face a heavyweight. They could choose Brett Rogers or event better Jeff Monson to face Fedor Emelianenko, but no…

Finally they canceled the event without explanations and leaved fighters unemployed. Those athletes invested money and time to prepare their fight. Affliction does not seem to care about it. They really look like a spoiled child who wanted to get the best champions like some stupid billionaire hire Hollywood stars to their birthday party.

They proved Dana White right. They are just T-shirt sellers that have nothing to do in the fighting business. Sticks and stones, the UFC announced that Affliction might be back sponsoring the UFC….

They only had money to oppose to the UFC and finally, they lost a bunch.

UFC 37.5 was a belated show specifically organized to promote the UFC on Fox Sports Net’s The Best Damn Sports Show Period, where the “best fight” of the card was broadcast during the “All Star Summer” festivity in June of 2002.

The main event fight of the night was between Vitor Belfort and Chuck Liddell, with the winner obtaining a chance to fight for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. It also was the first appearance of Joe Rogan as a color commentator on UFC program.

The show featured six fights only instead of height fights. It was also the first time since UFC Japan the event wasn’t aired live on PPV. The figure 37.5 was used because UFC 38 had already been commercialized in England, where the UFC was making their first appearance just three weeks after.
