Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros is a seven time champion of the WJJC (The World Jiu-Jitsu Championship).

He also contended in ADCC and became Super Super Heavy Weight Pan-American Gi and No-Gi champion in 2007.

He’s a BJJ black belt who received his belt from Romero “Jacaré” Cavalcanti, one of the six men promoted to black belt by Rolls Gracie himself.

He is one of the founding members of Team Brasa and teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling at his school, FLO Mixed Martial Arts in Vermont Rd. Palatine, IL.

He won many titles in his BJJ career in championships such as:

• Pan-American Tournaments (4 Times Gold Medalist)

• US Open Champion

• Skirmish Grappling Champion

• Rio de Janeiro State Champion (4 times)

Rob McCullough born Robert Alexander McCullough IV is a Muay Thai and MMA fighter. He was a five-time World Muay Thai title-older, and is a former WEC lightweight champion.

He started out his MMA Career at WEC 2: Clash of the Titans with a submission win against Jesse Heck on 10/4/01 at 0:24 of the first round. After fighing in smaller shows, he fought in the PFC: Knucklefest tournament.

He battled many times in WEC, KOTC and PFC before fighting exclusively for WEC at WEC 19.

He won the vacant WEC lightweight title against Kit Cope at WEC 25: Las Vegas and lost it against Jamie Varner at WEC 32. He is coming out of a victory against Marcus Hicks at WEC 39 on 3/1/09.

Rob McCullough adapted the stand up style fighting of Muay Thai to the complete fighting style of MMA covered in a 7 DVD series.

Mixed Martial Arts is not a writer’ sport. There are few books out there on the market, if you put aside the instructional books.

Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes and Randy Couture published their bibliography but that’s not a very big production, even including the very good book: Fighter and some other press releases.

Forrest Griffin turned famous when he participated in the first-season of Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter reality show. At the time of the show, he wanted to stop MMA fighting and join the Athens Police Department.

Dana White convinced him to participate to the show and required him to change his mind. He had a 9-2 MMA record back then, fighting in minor show like the RSF, Battle at the Brewery (!!), WEFC 1: Bring It On, KOTC, IFS and alike. He started out his career by a loss to Dan Severn at RSF 5: New Blood Conflict on October 27, 2001.

He finally made it to the finale and got the victory against Stephan Bonnar in the “most important fight in UFC history” as stated by Dana White himself. The fight that took the Ultimate Fighting Championship into the mainstream viewer. For winning TUF 1, he was given a professional contract to fight with the UFC as a professional fighter.

He is the first and most well known fighter in the professional league coming from TUF reality show. He achieved to be the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion at UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin on July 5, 2008.

Subtitled “The 50 Zen Principles of Hand-to-Face Combat,” Griffin broadly speaking talks about his career, giving many hilarious quotes about his life in and out of the octagon and gives really good advice for anybody wishing to be a professional MMA fighter.

It is a pleasant and comical book to read. Forrest Griffin is a down to earth average guy, extremely humble and funny at the same time. He is not a pretentious champion with an inflated aura like many others competing in the UFC. He sounds more like the next person you’ll meet at the bar and chat with, beer in hand, for a good laugh.

He is undefeated in the octagon and got the FC Middleweight Championship at his second fight against Rich Franklin.

Chris “The Westside Strangler” Brennan is a Mixed Martial Arts veteran who has fought in many different MMA events such as PRIDE FC: Bushido 1, 2 and 12, UFC 35 and 16, CAGE RAGE 23, Gracie Fighting Championships 1 and 2, King of the Cage I, III, V, X, XI and XV and Bas Rutten Invitational to only name a few.

He was the Pride Bushido 1 winner, won the first UFC Lightweight Fight and was 3 times King of the Cage Middleweight World Champion among many other awards and titles.

He’s a Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu and own The Next Generation Fighting Academy and the Next Generation Sports Performance.

He produced an instructional series of 8 dvds specialized on Free Jiu Jitsu. Also read, Jiu Jitsu adapted for MMA. Because of Royce Gracie, Jiu Jitsu became the heart of MMA fighting. Real Jiu Jitsu or BJJ bouts are done bare knuckles and wearing a Gi. Most of the techniques involving the use of the Gi to submit the opponent do not work in the cage were fighters are fighting bare-chested.

Chris Brennan, along with many fighters evolving in the MMA circuit worked of the BJJ style to make it work in the cage. They isolated the submission moves that could be effective in a MMA ring or octagon and adapted some of the other ones to be effectives in a new fighting environment.

The exercise ball comes from fitness drill. It was introduced to MMA training by fighters like Frank Shamrock and Jiu Jitsu players that train a lot their flexibility and who had the idea to adapt fitness exercises to their regular workout.

It’s really good to work on your stability on the ground and to roll without an opponent. It’s great to develop your ground and pound fighting.

It’s also really good to work on you abs and hips like in regular fitness drills. Youtube has tons of fitness and MMA video instructional to help you in your training.

The lack of stability makes the exercise more difficult to acheave and gives better result than weight routine. Like Kettlebells, the perpetual motion of the weight gives extra power and explosivity.

Randy Couture started his career in the old days of the UFC and is still performing today at a high level of competition.

He is scheduled to face Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 102: Couture vs. Nogueira on August 29, 2009.

Prior to his UFC career, he was a Greco-Roman wrestler and former collegiate wrestler. Couture has been an Olympic wrestler alternate and won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in 1991 in Havana.

He entered MMA competition at the rather advanced age of 36 year old at UFC 13: Ultimate Force in the tournament format, winning the heavyweight tournament at his first presence in the octagon on May 30, 1997.

Right after this tournament, Randy Couture faced Vitor Belfort in an elimination bout for the heavyweight title. He won the bout via TKO in the first round and gained a title fight against Maurice Smith at UFC Japan: Ultimate Japan on December 21, 1997.

Right after the event he was stripped of the title when he could not come to contractual terms with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

He returned to the UFC at UFC 28: High Stakes after a four year intermezzo in Japan from 1998 to 2000, to Win the heavyweight title against Kevin Randleman. He defended his title twice against Pedro Rizzo before losing two consecutive fights versus Josh Barnett and Ricco Rodriguez.

The Natural decided to move down a weight class to fight at 205 lbs in the light heavyweight division. Couture won his first fight against Chuck Liddell and the interim UFC light heavyweight title and became the only UFC contender to hold titles in two weight categories. He became the undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion at age 40 against Tito Ortiz by unanimous decision.

After losing a second time by knockout to Chuck Liddell, Couture retired from fighting. Consecutive a full year of retirement Randy made a victorious comeback against the giant Tim Sylvia for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 68 on March 3, 2007, making him the first fighter in UFC history to become a three-time champion.

Following a fight against Gabriel Gonzaga, Couture resigned from the UFC for obscure reasons. ($$$)

Over a year of controversy with the UFC management plus some B level movie shooting, Randy “The Natural” Couture accepted to make another comeback in the UFC octagon to defend his heavyweight title against the rising star Brock Lesnar at UFC 91.
